AVTRW meeting 2017

71st AVTRW Annual Conference

12th-13th September 2017

School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Surrey

The 2017 AVTRW Conference was held at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Surrey on 12th and 13th September.  Keynote speakers included Prof Roberto La Ragione, University of Surrey, and Dr Bryan Charleston, The Pirbright Institute. The conference booklet can be downloaded from this link and more information (including a selection of posters) is available to AVTRW members via the members area.

The organisers of the conference are grateful to all attendees for contributing to an extremely positive 2 days.  Here is a selection of feedback from delegates:

"I honestly cannot say there was anything that you could improve on. As a student going to a conference for the first time, it was such a fantastic atmosphere. The variety of talks was amazing and very interesting to listen to. As a first time presenter at a conference, it was again a brilliant atmosphere. It was very relaxing which made the presentation enjoyable to give rather than stressful. It is such a shame that more people were not there as they definitely missed out on a fantastic conference. I will definitely be trying to promote this conference amoung my peers and hope to give more presentations myself in the future. If I am eventually given the opportunity I will encouraging my students to attend just as my lecturers and supervisors have!"

"Thank you to organising AVTRW conference 2017, it was great to participate in. "

"I have to say that I found the AVTRW to have been extremely well planned, the timetable worked out perfectly with no significant delays! The IT/AV support was clearly well organised and no issues here either - congratulations! Another positive thing to point out would be how diverse but well-grouped the different oral sessions were. For me, as I am sure for all other colleagues, it was an amazing first time experience as a presenter."

Vicki Adams (Editor of Veterinary Record Open) ran an interactive workshop on "How to write a scientific paper" on Day 2 of the conference. Conference attendees were invited to bring along a paper that they are currently working on for discussion during the session.

Social event

All conference participants were invited to the conference social event, held on the evening of 12th September at the Three Pigeons, Guildford (Three Pigeons website).  This was an excellent place for delegates to discuss their research with other conference attendees while relaxing for the evening!
